NEI will host a full-day roundtable with a Norwegian delegation organized by U.S. Embassy Oslo as part of a U.S.-Canada SMR study tour.

About the Roundtable

NEI will host a full-day roundtable with a Norwegian delegation organized by the U.S. Embassy as part of a U.S.-Canada SMR study tour. This event offers NEI members the opportunity to engage directly with Norwegian government and industry stakeholders as Norway explores the role of nuclear energy in its future energy mix. The delegation is comprised of a diverse set of stakeholders including Norsk Kjernekraft, Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority, delegates from local municipalities, and more. Session topics will include:

  • Public Acceptance
  • Regulatory Challenges
  • Fuel Cycle
  • Financing
  • Use Cases (Oil/gas, excess heat, data centers)
  • Contracting Options and Partnership Structures

About the Norwegian Market

In June 2024, the Norwegian government launched a formal assessment of nuclear power’s role in the country’s future energy mix, appointing a committee to evaluate its feasibility with a report expected by April 2026. This reflects growing interest in nuclear as Norway looks to meet rising electricity demand, support industrial growth, and achieve long-term decarbonization goals. While Norway has historically relied on hydropower, several municipalities are now actively considering proposals to host SMR projects. Developer Norsk Kjernekraft is leading these efforts, aiming to deliver up to 12.5 TWh annually, which would increase national power production by around 8%. Norway is also engaging international partners to explore advanced SMR technologies and construction options.

Who Should Attend?

Senior U.S. nuclear energy supplier executives representing reactor designers/vendors of large and small modular plants, engineering and construction companies, service providers, etc.

Sign-Up to Attend

Fill out and submit the form by Tuesday, April 29th, to attend the roundtable.
